Area of design that involves the creation of websites

Web Design

design field pertaining to the creation of websites

Web design is a field of designing that is dedicated to all the communication aspects of a website. While it is mainly related to graphic design it includes some elements of computer programming.

Designing websites means creating Internet areas where visitors can enter and find useful features. Thus a website can be compared to a venue, a college, an art gallery, a magazine, a film, a documentary and so on. Among its distinguishing qualities it can have the amazing characteristic of being interactive. The work of a web designer in this way consists on organising a wide range of elements in order to create Internet entities with unique identities which provide communications and functionalities.

Web design gives room to many methods of work. Because of its articulate nature, it can involve the work of an art director who coordinates professionals of other fields, as well as many other different combinations of experts.

The creative web design process is similar to that of other design fields like industrial design, graphic design, packaging design, film making and so on, but, according to the experience of many designers, it seems to allow more creativity. While in most design field s the finished product cannot be modified, in web design adjustments after completion can be made without incurring in dramatic expenditure increases. This minimises the risk of money loss due to mistakes, and therefore allows more room for experimentation thus giving web designers the possibility of expressing their creativity more easily.
