Tolomeo
- Artemide
(1986)
arm
lamp
The
design of the lamp Tolomeo has been realised
by Michele De Lucchi under commission of the
manufacturing company Artemide owned by Ernesto
Gismondi.
For
the realisation of the technical part of the
project the contribute of the designer Giancarlo
Fassina, who was in charge of Artemide's technical
office, was fundamental; thus Michele De Lucchi
decided to share with him the signature of
the product.
Tolomeo's
style is inspired by the design of the metal
lighting devises that were mainly produced
in the period from 1925 to 1945. Through Michele
De Lucchi's study of the form and the use
of carefully selected materials the lamp has
resulted in a very original and innovative
piece of work.
The
lighting source originates from an incandescent
light bulb which, thanks to the structure
of the device, can reach a wide area within
compass radium.
Manufactured
in polished anodised aluminium coloured in
silver or black the lamp Tolomeo has a structure
of joint arms connected to a head that can
be oriented in many different directions;
the lamp has been designed for a wide range
of purposes. It comes out in different versions
which have a base, a clamp, or a fixed support:
Tolomeo Sospensione, Tolomeo Terra, Tolomeo
Parete, and Tolomeo Faretto.
The
spring mechanism of the lamp Tolomeo is hidden
within the inner part of the arms stretching
throughout the length while kept in tension
by a visible lead at the top of the arm. This
method has made possible to obtain a product
characterised by purity of style and lightness.
The
lamp Tolomeo has been awarded the price Compasso
in 1989.
