Born in Cairo, Egypt, Karim Rashid received a significant amount of educational contribution in Canada in the city of Toronto. He
gained an industrial design degree in 1982 from the Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada, and pursued graduate design studies
in Naples, Italy, with world-famous designer Ettore Sottsass as a teachers. He then worked at Rodolfo Bonetto Studio, Milan, Italy.
On his return to Canada Karim Rashid worked seven years with the design company Kan Industrial Designers and founded and designed the firm Babel Fashion Inc in collaboration with other professionals.
He opened his own office in New York City in 1993 and obtained many important international clients, including the
companies:

- Umbra (Canada)
- Magis (Italy)
- Cappellini (Italy)
- Dakis Joaunau (Greece)
- Myhotel (UK)
- Vitro Crystal (Portugal)
- Artemide (Italy).
In 2001 the company Universe Rizzoli (New York) published a monograph written by him called "I Want to Change the World". Karim Rashid was then
invited to edit the industrial design book International Design Yearbook 2003 produced by the publisher Calman and King. ).
In
2005 he is featured in the book Blobjects and Beyond published by Chronicle Books, a book that associates the work of some
designers to one another because of their ability to convey a sense of fluidity.
Karim Rashid has many design creations in permanent collections and his work has been exhibited worldwide in many
museums among which are:

Karim Rashid teaches as an Associate Professor in Industrial Design at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. He has also gained teaching experiences in other universities among which is the Pratt Institute of New York. He lectures internationally.
The awards he received includes the 1999 George Nelson Award, a Silver Idea Award (for the chair called Oh Chair), and a Best of Category recognition.
Karim Rashid, who seems to be interested in many artistic fields, has released two music CDs for the company Neverstop Music.
