Polyurethanes are the most versatile group of polymers used in manufacturing. The can be used as foams, as fibres, as adhesives, as paints, as elastomers, and other in a wide range of applications.

One of the most popular polyurethanes used as a fibre is called Spandex, and is a thermoplastic elastomer which the company Du Pont puts on the market with the name of Lycra.
