Joe - Armchair manufactured by Poltronova

Joe - Poltronova

(1971)
armchair

Created by the designers Jonathan De Pas, Donato D'Urbino and Paolo Lomazzi, authors of the inflatable armchair Blow (1967), Joe is an original chair in performed expanded polystyrene lined in leather, capable of hosting at least two people.

It has the shape of gigantic baseball glove and the choice of its name is meant to be a form of kindness towards the baseball champion Joe Di Maggio, the US mass culture and the myths the mass media try to create.

In the chair's style it is possible to recognise some typical elements of the American art and of the philosophy of the design movement Shakers in the warm and natural colours, in the softness of the lines, and in the simplicity of the shape.

Characterised by its sweet and sensual shape, Joe is a product that reflects the cultural climet and the creative fever of 1960 in the desire of further developing classic shapes and standards.
