Casaviva
(1973) home furnishing and architecture magazine
The magazine Casaviva has a strong historic value as an indicator of the aesthetic ideals of the masses in home furnishing and architecture. It is a publication of the Italian publishing house Mondadori like many other magazines in the design field, includuing Casabella. Founded in 1907 by the graphic designer Arnoldo Mondadori the house had been producing countless publications characterised by strong sociocultural values in many areas of interest, and in 1973, with the creation of Casaviva it introduced one of most eloquent expressions of the domestic landscape internationally in the communication market.
Today managed by Marina Carrara, Casaviva offers useful solutions, advise and information to architects, while also targeting a generic public with an interest in the aesthetics and functionality of the home. It presents and reviews household appliances, gadgets, and furniture with great emphasis placed on the products whose use and manufacturing process are in harmony with the environmental ecosystem; the Trend supplements, which are offered free of charge with every issue since 1998, illustrate new ideologies in relation to the way in which one can use every part of the home.
Purchasable in news agencies, specialized book shops, or by subscription, in the Italian territory it has a monthly print that varies around 236.300 copies, and it is estimated that the number of habitual readers fluctuates around 1.020.000.
The interest that the magazine receives all over the world has made it possible to publish an edition for Thailand in March 2006, and for Bulgaria in October 2008. Since February 2008 a supplement of Casaviva is attached every Sunday to Eleftherotipia, one of the most important Greek daily newspapers.
