Bakelite is thermoset phenolic resin obtained through a reaction between
formaldehyde and phenol. Bakelite materials are used mainly
as powders for moulding, and in hot mixtures with filling materials
(wood powder, cotton, and other), with hardening agents, lubricants
and colours.
By using the method of hot pressing it is possible to produce a wide range of
objects with different characteristics designed for many different purposes.
Some examples of products created with this technique are telephones, bowls,
automobile dashboards, and protective parts for electric equipment.
