Aspronadi has been founded on 8 December 1972 and has been established in Genoa on October 1973.

On 30 March 1983 the association Aspronadi has obtained the acknowledgment of Ministero of the Marina Mercantile of concert with Ministero dei Trasporti. Since December 1984 ASPRONADI is part of Comitato Tecnico Gruppo for nautical activities and it is registered with Registro Italiano Navale (R.I.N.A.); from 1989 other two Ordinary Associates have joined this Committee. Since October 1986 ASPRONADI is part of Commissione Ministeriale for the review of the rules of the cruising nautical activities.

Initially (1973 / 1979) the organization's centre was in Milan, then it was moved to Florence (1979 / 1983), and finally returned to Milan.

Aspronadi is a non-profit organization and is committed mainly, as it appears on its charter, to:
- promote cruising nautical activities together with the art and the science of naval practice through training courses, meetings and initiatives which are organised in accordance with the professional ethics of the Aspronadi's associates.
- to promote the exchange of information and ideas between associates.
- to improve the position of the associates, to develop professional contacts with appropriate organisations and to achieve the official accreditation and recognition of its activity.
- to cooperate with universities and other institutes of study in the improvement of the art and science of the naval practice.

There have been many meetings organised by ASPRONADI, as well as conferences organised by other bodies to which Aspronadi members have been invited. Among the main topics of discussion are:
- nautical Design.
- fast Carene.
- light materials.
- design of sailboats.
- security for sailboats for cruising.
- the crisis in the sailboats market.
- Italian laws for cruising nautical activities.
- mixed materials.

For five years the organization's training activities have been consisting in organising courses on cruising sailboats design with Lega Navale (L.N.I.), Turin section, at a private institute in Milan. Aspronadi has established the first Italian design distant learning course for which it has drawn up the study curriculum and the criteria for supervising the students' work. On March 1995 it has undertaken the management of this course.
