Industrial designer and architect Ron Arad

Ron Arad

(1951)
architect - designer

Born in Tel Aviv, Israel, Ron Arad studied at the Jerusalem Academy of Art, and at the Architecture Association in London, UK, where he graduated in 1979.

In 1981 he founded the architecture and design office One Off Ltd, also called Office Cum Showroom, in the characteristic and romantic area of London Covent Garden.

He is famous for his interesting metal furniture designs characterised by inventive shapes. These includes shelves, armchairs, and many others. He has designed the Bookworm bookshelf and the FPE chair for Kartell, the Baby Boop dishes for Alessi (a collection of food containers inspired to the look of a baby boy, the image he identifies with), the Tom Vac Chairs for Vitra, some Glass furniture for Fiam, Upholstered Sofas for Moroso, and many other product design creations that very often have unpredictable, unusual, and highly functional shapes.
